Instructional Objective/Learning Outcome:

The students will broaden their knowledge about how language reflects the feelings, culture and time. Language is a social communication and is determined by our culture.

The student will:

Discuss what the term “Blind Willie”
Referring to a person by a title that denotes his disability is not acceptable. What has changed in US/Georgia/UK cultures?
What support was available to mothers of blind children in the early 1900’s? What happened to many disabled children during that time?
Seek information about Blind Willie’s disability and how it influenced his life.

Assessment Outcome:

Students will write a summary of cultural acceptance and support of disabled children in the early 1900s as compared to today.
