Info: Blind Willie’s songs like all song and stories have identifiable parts. They all have at least a setting, characters, conflict, solution/ending, happenings.

Instructional Objective/Learning Outcome:

  1. Describe four of the five parts of a story (setting, characters, conflict, solution, happenings).
  2. Create a story map using all five parts of a story

Materials for each group (4-5 students):

· The Blind Willie McTell Lyrics for “Stomp Down Rider”

· Blank paper to create the story map

Assessment Outcome:

  1. The students will read the song lyrics.
  2. After the students have reread the song, they will discuss the parts of a story (setting, characters, conflict, solution, and happenings). On paper provided, the group will construct a story map of the song lyrics.
  3. The students will then brainstorm ideas for their own music story. They will use a story map to organize their ideas.
  4. Students will share their songs with the rest of the group. Students will identify the setting, characters, conflict, and solution.
  5. Students will be assessed by observations while creating the story map and sharing their story map.
